During the exhibition 9769 Radio Drive in Honolulu, Steven and William held a Scrollathon with several different groups of students at the Contemporary Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii. With each group, they first toured the exhibition, having an open dialogue about the use of upcycled material in the artwork. They engaged the students to have a deeper understanding of collaborating within their community while directly transforming textile waste into art objects and inspiring environmental responsibility. This community contributed their own textile waste to the project, in the form of old Hawaiian shirts. Each student made one scroll to take home as a reminder of the exprience, and a second scroll was installed on the wall outside the entrance of the museum with those of their peers, creating a large collaborative work for everyone to enjoy. Each student's photograph, as well as that of their scroll, was taken for the permanent record.
